Does anyone use/pay attention to twitter? What is the purpose?

I found a good use for it, to keep a pulse on the market when I'm away from a pc.. which isn't often but meh. (stocktwits.com) Otherwise I get mindblenders food reviews, Beanies local weather report, and I know how often Andrew is getting a haircut.

I signed up and I got three random followers within like an hour... My wonder is why? I know none of these ppl.. I hit it up over the Ashton Kutcher vs cnn thing and curiosity , but I don't quite see how it fits yet?
