Recently I realized I was lied to as a child. I was watching Animal Planet the other day and I noticed that the hippos were not eating any marbles. Let alone many of them...while being slapped repeatedly on the back by children...and standing in a circle with other hippopotamuses.

Everyone knows that Hungry hungry hippos is a game of symbolism meant to indoctrinate the youth into the realities of family life. The hippos are the parents being constantly tormented by their offspring (slapping their backsides) and each new assault causes the parent (hippo) to grab another marble (sedative) in order to cope. (insert facial tic here).
