PC-BSD

Anyone running this?

Installed this linux distro last night and it seems quite smooth.

If anyone is using linux, I'd like suggestions for recommended softwares or processes to rip/burn dvds to backup my collection. Thanks.

I have been running linux for a while now.

Have you been to www.distrowatch.com?

as for software for burning and such, when you go into your system updater, where you can choose which packages to install... make sure you have it listed for all packages and not just registered packages. You miss so much by leaving it default. Items missed are the codecs to play DVD movies on linux as well as a DVDRipper, which is really the program name.

My preferred distro is hovering between Ubuntu and Pioneer... but Pioneer is really Ubuntu with KDE that is stable.

I downloaded the ISO and I'll likely load it up on one of my spare shit boxes here in the office... p4 1.6 with 512mb of ram. Just for fun.

Bah.

Apparently it's still too new, and buggy. Every other boot it either recognizes my full 2 Gig, or only 1 Gig. Fairly smooth, but the mouse periodically locks up..

After talking with Andrew I've decided to switch to Fedora core 7.
Downloading the dvd iso now. I'll start a different thread on that after it's installed.

I know K3b Burning SW for Linux comes w/ KDE X-Window on most Distro's. I know it does w/ SUSE 10.2 and possibly Kubuntu (Ubuntu w/ KDE).

For sure I had K3b installed and it burned fine, even though it barked there were errors after burning.

Also, the other bug I found disturbing is that this release would not recognize my sata burner, just the ide one. Odd, considerring the main hdd is sata and it booted just fine.

Stupid linux
