Everyone knows that Hungry hungry hippos is a game of symbolism meant to indoctrinate the youth into the realities of family life. The hippos are the parents being constantly tormented by their offspring (slapping their backsides) and each new assault causes the parent (hippo) to grab another marble (sedative) in order to cope.
