Andy - I agree... I really wonder when anyone declares that anything is "worse" now than it "used to be" if it isn't simply a perception issue. Like you said, there are simply more of us around to be impacted by things in general. Also, we're pretty well connected nowadays; the Internet, 24x7 news channels, etc. That makes it seem like there are far more tragedies now than there were even 20 years ago.
Maybe I'm just talking out of my ass though, too.
